A quick getaway through Ciutadella Park, Barceloneta beach, and the Olympic port
Alternative city tour to the Montjuic, featuring olympic venues and historical sites
This Segway Tour will take you on a journey through Barcelona’s history, which started at the green mountain located next to the city center, the Montjuic, more than 2000 years ago. The archeological remains of the settlement of the Laietani tribe, dated 300 BC, have been found at its foot, making it one of the primary founding communities in the region.
The Montjuic has been an epicenter of the cultural and political development of Barcelona and its previous communities. Rising 173 m over the mediterranean sea, its name is derived from the medieval Jewish cemetery located on its north-eastern side. The castle, which can also be reached by cable car, was constructed on the hilltop in 1751. The castle served to defend the city, as well as to control its population. Interestingly, the Montjuic’s fortress complemented the citadel whose remains in the Parc de la Ciutadella are also visited at the beginning of the tour.
Montjuic’s modern history is not any less interesting than its past. Some of the main sights of Barcelona are located on its hillsides, many of which will be visited during this “out” of the city tour. For example, some major sports facilities of the 1992 Olympic Games; the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi and the Olympic Museum of Barcelona are located on the city’s green hill.
With the MNAC – National Museum for Contemporary Art and the Joan Miro Foundation, the area also has two of Barcelona’s most important art museums among its many attractions. It is not necessary to mention how fantastic it is to witness Barcelona’s sunset from the terraces of one of the many chiringuitos that are located on Montjuic, a beautiful experience worth sharing with friends and family.
Apart from Montjuic and the Parc de la Ciutadella, this tour also includes a part of the historic Port Vell, the oldest part of the city’s marina, and the Columbus monument that marks the end of the famous street of Las Ramblas.
